Who was Carl Lumholtz?
Carl Lumholtz was a Norwegian explorer, anthropologist and ethnographero During his trips to Mexico, Lumholtz dedicated himself especially to studying the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Tarahumara, located in the state from Chihuahua, Mexico.
Lumholtz carried out his first expedition to the Sierra Tarahumara in 1891, and returned several more times in the following years. During his expeditions, Lumholtz strove to understand the customs, beliefs and way of life of the Raramuri. He collected a large number of objects and ethnographic records, as well as took photographs and recordings of traditional music.
In his book "Unknown Mexico" published in 1902, Lumholtz describes in detail his discoveries and observations about the RarƔmuri and their culture. The book is considered a classic in the field of anthropology and is still considered a valuable source of information about this culture.
In addition to his work as an anthropologist, Lumholtz also contributed significantly to the development of the Sierra Tarahumara region. During his travels, Lumholtz established contacts with indigenous leaders and promoted projects to improve the living conditions of indigenous communities. He also helped establish schools and hospitals in the region.
Without a doubt, a character worth studying, reading, researching and asking about is a good way to start a conversation in Creel. Leave your comments below.
